Hi guys! I'm writting this journal because I received a lot of comments about my
Mouse Character Design from my animation short project "
The Red Wanderer" looking like Mrs. Brisby from the Secret of Nihm or reminding someone to the movie.
I need to say some things about this, so the comments wont be repeated again and again:
The Red Wanderer project was born from my love of various movies and videogames: Princess Mononoke, Shadow of the Colossus and The Secret of Nihm, as well as my love for the animal world and dark themed stories.
I absolutely agree on the project reminding you to the Secret of Nihm, because it was one of my inspirations speaking about a story about a mouse from a dark-dramatic point of view. My story is absolutely silent, there's only music accompanying the action, which I belive it helps to that ambience I'm looking for.
I have to be sincere now: I don't think any of my characters looks like the one from The Secret of Nihm, and I'm going to explain why I don't like to read comments of people that only write them to say "this looks like...". I feel honoured because Don Bluth is one of my favorite artists of all time, but I spent a lot of time looking for photos and videos on the internet, researching and trying to understand how a mouse or a rat "works": how it looks, how it moves, anathomy... and after that, trying to adapt it to my character, because I want him to be able to stand and walk on his feet. I assure you that Mrs. Brisby or any other character from The Secret of Nihm or any other movie wasn't on my research images and the last of my intentions was to "copy" them.
The last thing I want is to sound rude, but I need to say this because I don't think any professional artist likes to read comments that only say "This looks like..." and that's all. Constructive criticism is something I always appreciate A LOT, so please, if you have something to say don't keep it to yourself!
Sorry if this offended anyone, it truly wasn't my intention.
